E’mpowering & E’nabling Digital E’ntrepreneurship in Malaysia

PWTC: In conjunction with this milestone event for digital entrepreneurship for the nation, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak has officiated the inaugural Daya eUsahawan 2015 and launched the programme, as witnessed by MDEC Chief Executive Officer, YBhg Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), as the ICT custodian of the nation, has designed a digital transformation programme aimed at inspiring and guiding budding Malaysian entrepreneurs to embrace digital entrepreneurship as the future of business. eUsahawan has met with resounding success in its pilot project implementation and is set to create an ecosystem that promotes the pervasive use of ICT in all aspects of the economy and to create connected communities.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are generally viewed as an engine of technological progress and economic growth and provide a way forward for solving the global challenges of the 21st century, building sustainable development, creating jobs and advancing human welfare.

Technology is disrupting all areas of enterprise, driving myriad opportunities and challenges. The digital economy is developing rapidly worldwide, becoming the single most important driver of innovation, competitiveness and growth, holding huge potential for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Countries across the globe try to stimulate the entrepreneurial mindset of young people, encouraging innovative business start-ups and fostering a culture that is friendlier to entrepreneurship and to the growth of SMEs. In many ways, all entrepreneurship today, is digital entrepreneurship.

The possibilities are endless for Malaysian entrepreneurs as people and businesses become truly ‘connected’. It is how these businesses adopt digital technologies and adapt to the digital economy that will be a key determinant of their future growth, and ultimately, realizing the Digital Malaysia national agenda.
